Three Way: Red Lipstick

I love red lipstick. I want to shout it from the rooftops. I love red lipstick so, so much. My love knows no bounds.

It took me a long time to feel confident in red lipstick. I’m not entirely sure why but there was something that was just a little intimidating about it. I would buy a red lipstick and put it on but then quickly take it off before I went anywhere. On day, though, I just said fuck it and went out with it. Maybe it took finding a formula I knew would stay put on my lips. If you feel safe in a formula, knowing that it’s not going to move all over your face or get on your teeth, then you’ll feel a little better in the colour.

So I started with Kat Von D’s Everlasting Liquid Lipstick but have since moved on. My go to red lipstick is now Fenty’s Stunna Lip Paint in Uncensored. It’s a great formula. If you’re new to liquid lipsticks, it might take you a few tries to get the hang of this one. It’s rather liquidy and can get a little messy. It’s definitely not the type of lipstick that you can just swipe on without a mirror. That being said, once it’s on and dry, it goes nowhere. I once ate a cheese burger with this on and didn’t have to reapply.

Fenty also prides their products on being universally flattering so the colour will look good on you. I have yet to see this lipstick look bad on anyone. It’s just the most perfect red. This isn’t sponsored, I just really love Fenty (who doesn’t?).

Anyway. If you’re new to red lipstick, sometimes it can be a little intimidating to add it into a look so I have put together three different looks featuring the same lipstick to give you a few ideas!

LOOK ONE: NO MAKEUP

I think something that I really love about red lips is that they just amp up everything. This is the most basic of looks. I literally have no makeup on, not a thing. I’ve prepped my skin with my regular skin care routine and then threw on a red lipstick.

LOOK TWO: CLASSIC

While red lipstick can be something new and exciting, it is also a super classic look. This is a really easy go-to that I think has a really fun, retro, kind of rock n’ roll vibe.

I’ve simply added a touch of concealer using the Glossier Stretch Concealer in G12. I then used Fenty’s Flyliner Longwear Liquid Eyeliner to created a bit of a cat eye. My mascara is Too Faced’s Better Than Sex and the, of course, red lips.

LOOK THREE: SOFT PINK

This is something a little new for me but lately, I’ve really been loving it. I really like the way a soft, buffed out eyeshadow looks with a bright red lip. There’s something about it that feels very romantic and I am here for it.

I used a few different shades from an Urban Decay palette to create this look. I really love this palette but I don’t use it as much as I should. It’s called the Backtalk palette and one side it eyeshadows, the other side is blush and highlighter. I used one of the blushes on my eyes, though. I went ahead and circled the shades that I used.
